Windows Notepad is a very useful application for quickly writing any type of text. Unfortunately, Notepad is not good enough for programmers, as it's too simple and doesn't offer too many features. Programmers would like an application that can highlight the syntax and can display line numbers, so they can quickly spot an error. A program which can help in this situation is EditPlus.

This Windows application allows users to write any kind of text, no matter if we are talking about programming code or poetry. After installing and launching the program, the user will notice that the interface is split into multiple areas. The left area includes a Windows Explorer-like navigation, displaying all the files and folders stored on the computer. When clicking on a specific file, its content will be quickly displayed in the main area of the interface.

In case the file includes source code, the programming functions will be automatically highlighted. That's because EditPlus is compatible with most programming languages available today, like HTML, CHM, C++, Java and so on. For making it easier to navigate through the source files of the application, each one of them will be displayed in the lower part of the interface, in a tabbed mode.

When creating a source file from scratch, the syntax will be highlighted in real time and the line numbers will be displayed, for quickly spotting any possible error in the source code. A complex search and replace feature is available in the application, which can look for certain pieces of text and also for next or previous words. A spell checker with support for various languages is also included, which is useful when writing different text projects, like letters or poetry.

After a text file has been created, the user can save it in a wide range of source code file formats, but can also upload it to FTP directly, using the built-in FTP client.
